Apple versus Apple

If you, like me, have been waiting somewhat impatiently for the next generation iPhone, anticipating that it will be on the market some time during the summer (the traditional launch date for the new handsets) then I’m afraid I have some bad news; according the rumours, we may have to wait a little longer.
I’d rather spend an entire afternoon working at Diamond Waste than have to wait for a gadget, so there had better be a good reason for the whispers that iPhone 5 might not be putting in an appearance until the autumn. If there aren’t some major and impressive new changes, then I will be writing a strongly-worded letter to my Apple chums expecting an explanation.
Of course, they’ll probably be far to busy to answer any crank correspondence. After all, if the rumours are true and iPhone 5 won’t be out until autumn, then it will be clashing with the traditional iPod launch date of September each year. That’s going to keep the Apple PR department on its toes as they try to come up with two different cool ads for two very different cool products. I would imagine customer service’s phone will be ringing off the hook too, with all the customers calling to report the bugs they have found in their new gadget!
Call me cynical, but I can’t help thinking that it’s a bit of a coincidence that the iPhone 5 has been delayed by just enough time that it will end up being launched at the same time as the new iPod. I smell a combined advertising campaign or perhaps some new cool link-up between the two. Otherwise why would Apple not just push back all product launches and save themselves some major hassle?
