Apple and iPhone

iPhone is one gadget that has been hogging the limelight in any magazine or website that is related to gadgets. The track record of the iPhone and the imposing specification that the gadget has makes it the natural choice of most consumers in the mobile phone market. The first iPhone came into the market about three years back and since then there has never been the second spot that this gadget has gone to.

One out of every other person in the world today would be using an iPhone for sure. The task that they would be indulging in using the gadget could be from sending a sms to updating their Twitter or Facebook account. The touch screen adds some extra zing to the gadget and its pure fun to flip over photo albums using this gadget.

Apple, the company known for their computer mastery, had caused some form of apprehension amongst its followers and others too about the efficacy of a device that was not a computer as such. Apprehensions dissolved in thin air with the success that the gadget experienced in the very first days of its launch. Never before has the mobile gadget industry witnessed such a sophisticated gadget being available to the customers so easily.

The device comes with a 720p video capability and more than 300,000 applications that could be run on the device. The device caters for the various upgrades and changes that the social networking sites across the internet come up with on a near daily basis, not to mention the smooth global roaming access. Keeping these applications available to an iPhone user makes this device the most wanted gadget of the millennium. With other companies competing fiercely to cut a slice of the market share for their own, Apple has remained as the leader in this market with their iPhone and kept the company in high regard all over the world.

The latest generation iPod from Apple

A HD video recording feature has been added to the fourth generation iPod from Apple. There is also the front facing camera which has been added and gives the device video chat on the touch feature. The screen of this latest generation iPod from Apple is as sensitive to touch as its previous generation devices. The price of the iPod starts at $149 which makes this the cheapest amongst video playing iPods in the market.

The iPod is sleek and weighs just 3.6 ounce, by dimensions the device is 4.4 by height and 2.3 by width 0.3 inches by depth. The device is powered by the A4 chip which is an Apple custom chip.

For controls there are two buttons in the left hand panel for Volume control and then there are jacks where the headphone and speaker go in. For USB connectivity a 30 pin connector is provided and with this one can synchronise the iPod with one’s laptop or PC.

Apple provides a Quick start Guide, a pair of Apple signature earbuds and a USB cable for connecting the touch to the computer. The earbuds though are not appropriate enough to give the sound effect that the touch emanates. One may therefore consider upgrading this with the ear phones.

The OS that the device runs upon is iOS and it is sheer pleasure the experience that one gets from this OS. Navigation is smooth and easy requiring simple finger touches to do so. There is the keyboard which is horizontal making it easier to operate. Orientation switches automatically depending on how the player is held by the user. There is also an accelerometer lock which can be found at the lower left of the screen as an icon.

The device is the most apt item in the entertainment and infotainment world and a must have for such lovers of entertainment and infotainment, as it provides more of these than even the best solitaire online game.

Apple versus Apple

Apple versus Apple

If you, like me, have been waiting somewhat impatiently for the next generation iPhone, anticipating that it will be on the market some time during the summer (the traditional launch date for the new handsets) then I’m afraid I have some bad news; according the rumours, we may have to wait a little longer.
I’d rather spend an entire afternoon working at Diamond Waste than have to wait for a gadget, so there had better be a good reason for the whispers that iPhone 5 might not be putting in an appearance until the autumn. If there aren’t some major and impressive new changes, then I will be writing a strongly-worded letter to my Apple chums expecting an explanation.
Of course, they’ll probably be far to busy to answer any crank correspondence. After all, if the rumours are true and iPhone 5 won’t be out until autumn, then it will be clashing with the traditional iPod launch date of September each year. That’s going to keep the Apple PR department on its toes as they try to come up with two different cool ads for two very different cool products. I would imagine customer service’s phone will be ringing off the hook too, with all the customers calling to report the bugs they have found in their new gadget!
Call me cynical, but I can’t help thinking that it’s a bit of a coincidence that the iPhone 5 has been delayed by just enough time that it will end up being launched at the same time as the new iPod. I smell a combined advertising campaign or perhaps some new cool link-up between the two. Otherwise why would Apple not just push back all product launches and save themselves some major hassle?

Apple delays launch of iPad2 in Japan

With the devastation that followed the earthquake and tsunami that has wreaked havoc in Japan, Apple has announced a delay in its launch of the iPad2 in the Japanese market. The release of the iPad2 was supposed to have taken place in Japan by mid March. How long would be the delay and when would be the launch has not been announced.

As of now Apple is more concerned with the help and the aid that the country requires to come out of the natural calamity and its devastative effects. Apple has announced that their team is right now focusing on methods and means to help the country cope up and come out of the present calamity. This was from Natalie Kerris, spokeswoman of Apple in an interview with AFP. She also mentioned about the need of the hour that Apple understands is what the people of Japan need and that includes employees of Apple who are there in the country.

Apple has a retail store in the city of Sendai, located the North East region of Japan, and which has borne the direct hit of the calamity and that has been closed till further notice. There has however been confirmation that launch of the iPad in other countries would go on as per previous schedule.

The iPad2 is the latest version of the touch screen tablet device from Apple and its launch in US has given indications that this one would be a bigger hit than its previous models which had been released in the April of 2010. The good part about the ipad is that it can work well without r4 card type slots. As per Global Equities Research the Apple iPad2 has sold out nearly three times more in number than the iPad1. Apple had delayed the launch of the iPad 1 in the US last year due to the high volume of demand that had flown through.

Software tools for the iPad

For those who have been looking for a method to take notes easily and swiftly on the iPad there is good news. Penultimate is the software that has recently been released which for a start promises wrist protection in Developers jargon and palm rejection in case of Tableteers. The application provides a means for placing ones hand on the screen and take notes with a stylus. The hand can take notes on the screen directly and this is indeed a fast way where one has to take notes using the iPad without being able to look into the screen while taking notes.

Having created the notes which in turn are documents that need to be shared with other people of the group there is a need for such a utility that would be possible on the iPad. This is where utility named DropBox for the iPad comes in useful. The documents therefore are stored in a folder system which the OS of the iPad otherwise does not have. Now, there is the Documents to Go application for the iPad which allows for a mobile version of Word, Excel and PowerPoint for the iPad.

These tools along with Penultimate makes the iPad a shade closer to the dream device for anyone who is looking for a mobile device to take notes at work like that of a film director. One does not have to go on looking at the screen like one would while playing solitaire.

It is not only text that can be easily scribbled and stored for later use and reference. Even sketching comes easy with iPad when used in conjunction with the tool aptly named the iThoughtsHD. One can use this application on the iPad for creating sketches as they come to the mind while watching the practice theater unfold on the stage.

With these software tools, the iPad takes on the job of the director to quite an extent by easing his attention required in these aspects like notes taking and sketching.

Battery life on an iPad

Battery life on an iPad

Battery life has been one single factor that has placed all mobile manufacturers in a quandary since their very inception. Apple though has been able to strike the correct note in this aspect when it comes to their iPad. The current battery charge of an iPad holds good for at least two days without the need for a recharge if not used extensively. For those who use it extensively they have found that the charge is good enough for a whole day that a human being normally can stay awake without sleep, or even to see one through regular working hours at an it support company.

By verbal reports that have been coming in the iPad 2, it is said to have 10 hours of battery life with a single charge when used extensively. However, there is the issue that this holds only for an iPad with Wi-Fi and no 3G. The same would not be true when it come to an iPad with 3G also.

Apple came out with the iOS 4.3.1 which was supposed to have given improved battery life to both the iPad2 as well as previous version of the device. It has however been tested and found that the iPad 2 has a characteristic in which the battery discharges in the initial stages a bit more rapidly

There are, however, a few steps that are advised to save on battery charge, one of them being, to turn off the Ping service. Running down the battery completely so that it gets an opportunity to calibrate is another method to improve battery charge availability. One would also get better battery charge availability by keeping the Airplane mode on and the turning on the Wi-Fi feature of the iPad 2. One must also remember that there are certain games when run on the iPad draws on system resources heavily and in turn the battery charge also. Games like Infinity Blade are a good example of this.

Love The Kindle? Read This…

Love The Kindle? Read This...

Here at the Apple Mac blog, we sort of hate Amazon and the Kindle. The Kindle is like our Ice-man (we’re talking Top-Gun here) to our Maverick: we have respect deep down for him, but on the surface it’s all war.

The problem is, Kindle is dominating the market place when it comes to ebook readers. Although it has to be said that there is a huge buzz around the new ipad 2 coming out very soon, there’s also a lot of buzz around the future of the Kindle. Hmm, that pesky Kindle monster…

But then again, maybe the competition is healthy? After all, it’s good that we’re forced to try and better ourselves. In the world of ebook readers that means we’re constantly striving for ways to improve our service and make the reading experience with us that much better.

Obviously, if you are going to just buy books then you’ll prefer the Kindle, but allow me to point out the benefits of the ipad:

1) It’s got colour! Yes, colour! And not only can you update your blog in COLOUR and get Free Antivirus Downloads , but you can also red magazines and yes, they actually look like magazines. The Kindle, on the other hand, is grey scale like something out of the 1980s. Still, let’s not get too bitchy…

2) The other benefit of the ipad is, of course, the fact that it has COLOUR video. And, as the internet access in the world reaches a level where you can even get in the shower and get your emails, that’s a good thing. The Amazon network, on the other hand, may be free and worldwide but it is hardly reliable. And besides that, email and internet access on the Kindle may be free but it also in its infancy and still needs a lot of improvement before it reaches a suitable standard.
