Mac OS X Lion review

Mac OS X Lion review

Jonathan Shaw is a King among the sea of artists, or at least king of the Mac operating systems.

In a nod to its mobile iPhone/iPad influences, Lion continue its advancement in ’multi-touch gestures'for its multi-touch trackpad. The familiar gestures used to scroll, click, zoom, swipe and navigate will continue to be used in lieu of a full-touch-screen monitor, which, to be honest, will be cumbersome to use in a laptop computer environment.

One of the new highlighted features in Lion are the seamless incorporation with the App Store (dubbed the Mac App Store) making it easier to find, download and install your apps. Users of the iPad will recognize and appreciate this new “one-click and you’re ready to go”feature.

Another highlighted feature is also here thanks to the iPad – the Launchpad. This feature is an easy way to organize (and launch!) your apps. With one click, you can see all your apps, and just like on an iPad, you can drag apps to organize them, placing them in folders, or placing them into multiple pages, swiping elegantly to navigate between the pages.

Another nod to iPad’s usability is the full-screen app function. With just a click, your app can be made full-screen, allowing you to work using the maximum screen space available, with no distractions.

Helping manage the intuitive fluidity of the iPad-influenced features in Lion is the new feature called Mission Control. Activated by a single swipe, you can get a big picture view of everything that is active on your Mac. Open windows, grouped by app, thumbnails of full-screens, your Dashboard, and Spaces – all of these are at your fingertips in one view, intuitively organized.

These new intuitive interface and features, making it easier to work and play on the Mac, do seem like they will make Mac users jump up and roar for Lion.

iPad is the replacement

iPad is the replacement

iPad is a firm replacement of the PC. You might be thinking of ways to ditch my argument but I mean what I say. I’ve done all the research myself I found out that it is possible. I didn’t want to believe myself but I had to give into the facts.
The main points that make a desktop PC a desktop PC is a screen of a comfortable size, a mouse, a keyboard, fully functional office software, gaming experience and sound. This has all been challenged and tested. There is one thing that cannot be cured, absence of Flash, but the Blackberry Playbook does cure the itch, so we could consider the Playbook if you are flash stubborn. The screen is of a comfortable size, there are no issues of you having squint to read as the 9.7 inch crystal clear HD screen make things pleasant to read. If there is anything too small to read you could always zoom in. The function of the mouse is disabled and substituted with a much more comfortable and user friendly touch screen. There is no substitute to the keyboard, eventhough the iPad has the on screen keyboard, it is not comparable to the comfort one gets from a keyboard away from the screen that doesn’t take up a part of the screen. However you could use a ZEGG keyboard which has way more functions than you need, its practically light and witty. The iPad also has quick office, box.net, SharePlus office,Pages and the GoodReader which the office goer’s requirement. There are tons of other apps which cannot leave an office goer complaining. I managed to organise my ski trip the other day just through using some of the latest apps, I even got myself some bargain ski insurance. Finally gaming and sound is well handled as well as the Apple store has a wide range of games and music to download, there is basically no end to this pit. And being the makers of the iPod the sound is of good quality.
Thus we have a problem solved. If you have currys discount codes that are waiting to used, you’d rather get an iPad or wait for a Playbook than buy a laptop or a PC.
